As Malaysia prepares to celebrate its 68th National Day, the heart of the nation—Putrajaya—is getting ready for a grand showcase. But with all the excitement building, authorities are reminding the public to be prepared for some key road closures and traffic changes starting August 26.
According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, 14 major roads in Putrajaya will be temporarily closed between 6:00 am and 12:00 noon from August 26 to August 29 to accommodate rehearsals for the big day. These include commonly used routes such as Lebuh Wawasan, Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Pembangunan, and Jalan Perpaduan, among others.
But that’s not all. In anticipation of the main celebration, access to Putrajaya Core Island—the focal point of the festivities—will be completely sealed off from 10:00 pm on August 29 until August 31. Several access points, including Jambatan Saujana, Jambatan Wawasan, and Bulatan Salahuddin, will be off-limits during this time.
To ease the public’s movement, free shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes from three different pickup points. Fadil strongly encouraged those planning to attend the celebrations to plan their journeys early, use the shuttle service, and arrive well in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
The scale of this celebration is significant. Over 100,000 people are expected to join in the National Day festivities, and to ensure everything goes smoothly, 2,708 officers and personnel will be on the ground. Their role? To keep traffic flowing, manage crowds, and ensure the safety of every attendee.
In line with the celebrations, an Anti-Crime Operation will also be in effect. Police will be paying close attention to high-risk areas and crowd hotspots in an effort to prevent and address crime, ensuring that the Merdeka spirit remains undisturbed.
So, if you’re planning to be part of this historic celebration—get ready early, follow updates, and embrace the spirit of unity and pride as Malaysia prepares for another memorable Merdeka.
