The Jammu and Kashmir Government has created 899 new posts across different departments since October 16, 2024, providing fresh details on employment opportunities and administrative expansion in the Union Territory.
The figures were shared in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday in response to a question raised by Handwara MLA Sajad Gani Lone.
According to the government’s response, the Health and Medical Education Department accounted for the largest share of newly created positions, with 485 posts. The Housing and Urban Development Department followed with 266 posts, while the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department created 82 new positions.
Other departments also saw the creation of new posts. The Jal Shakti Department added 43 positions, while 16 posts were created under the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.
The remaining posts were distributed among several departments, including three in the Cooperatives Department, two in Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, and one each in ARI & Trainings and the Transport Department.
Beyond the creation of new positions, the government also provided an update on recruitment activity since October 2024. A total of 7,580 selections have reportedly been finalised through the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board.
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission received 1,852 vacancies for recruitment during the period. These included 855 Open Merit vacancies, 198 Scheduled Caste vacancies, 166 ST-1 vacancies, 156 ST-2 vacancies, 114 OBC vacancies, 65 ALC/IB vacancies, 149 RBA vacancies, 139 EWS vacancies, four PSP vacancies and six ST backlog vacancies.
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board received a significantly larger number of vacancies, with 12,418 positions referred for recruitment. These included 5,173 Open Merit vacancies, 1,104 SC vacancies, 1,248 ST-1 vacancies, 1,212 ST-2 vacancies, 933 OBC vacancies, 495 ALC/IB vacancies, 1,174 RBA vacancies and 1,079 EWS vacancies.
Taken together, the two recruitment agencies received 14,270 vacancies for recruitment since October 2024, according to the government’s reply.
For job seekers across Jammu and Kashmir, these figures provide a broader picture of recruitment activity taking place through the region’s two major government recruitment bodies. The creation of new posts and the referral of thousands of vacancies highlight the scale of recruitment being processed across different departments.
While the numbers provide an important snapshot of government recruitment, the actual impact for candidates will ultimately depend on recruitment notifications, examinations, selection processes and appointments associated with these vacancies.
The latest information therefore gives job aspirants, young professionals and those preparing for JKPSC and JKSSB examinations a clearer view of the volume of vacancies that has moved through the recruitment system since October 2024.
