Malé, Maldives: The 13th edition of the India-Maldives joint military exercise, ‘Ekuverin’, has officially commenced, reinforcing the strong defense cooperation between the two nations, officials confirmed.

‘Ekuverin’, which means ‘Friends’ in Dhivehi, is an annual bilateral military exercise held alternately in India and the Maldives. In 2023, it took place in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand, from June 11 to 24. This year, the exercise is being hosted in the Maldives, beginning on Sunday.

The opening ceremony was held at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Composite Training Centre in Maafilafushi, attended by Maldives National Defence Force Chief Major General Ibrahim Hilmy and Indian High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian. The Indian High Commission in Maldives shared updates and photos of the event on social media platform X.

Spanning 14 days, the exercise is designed to enhance interoperability between the two defense forces in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations while also focusing on joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

This annual collaboration underscores the commitment of both nations to regional security, stability, and disaster response preparedness.
