Ahmedabad, India – In a bold move that blends ambition, history, and national pride, an Indian delegation has officially presented a proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad. The presentation was made in London before the Evaluation Committee of the Commonwealth Sport organization, according to an official statement from the Gujarat government.

The high-profile Indian team was led by Gujarat’s Minister of Sports, Harsh Sanghavi, and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President, the legendary athlete P.T. Usha. Together, they made a compelling case to bring the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games to Indian soil.

The 2030 edition holds immense historical significance as it will mark 100 years of the Commonwealth Sport Movement. India’s bid aims to place Ahmedabad at the heart of this global celebration, positioning the city as a symbol of progress, unity, and inclusivity.

Ahmedabad’s plan features a compact and modern sports infrastructure, supported by an extensive transport network and premium accommodation. But the bid goes far beyond just facilities. It embraces the principles of the “Games Reset”, focusing on affordability, sustainability, inclusivity, and flexibility.

The proposal includes powerful commitments:

  • Full integration of para-sports
  • Gender equity and human rights protection
  • A long-term legacy plan that benefits athletes, local communities, and the Commonwealth family at large

“Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will be a proud milestone—not just for Gujarat, but for all of India,” said Minister Harsh Sanghavi. “We view these Games as a springboard to inspire youth, advance the mission of Viksit Bharat 2047, and reinvigorate the Commonwealth spirit for the next century.”

Echoing the sentiment, IOA President P.T. Usha added, “India’s bid isn’t just about showcasing our capability—it’s about championing our values. Ahmedabad is ready to take the baton from Glasgow 2026 and shape the future of Commonwealth sport, while honouring its rich past.”

With unified backing from the Central Government, the Gujarat Government, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India, the bid underscores India’s readiness to host a Games that is not just globally impactful—but deeply human, deeply inclusive, and deeply Indian.
