Airtel offers free international roaming with all postpaid plans

Bharti Airtel has announced a new set of postpaid plans that bring a useful travel benefit to customers: one complimentary international roaming trip every year.

Starting October 8, 2026, eligible Airtel Postpaid customers will receive one free international roaming pack annually, while continuing to receive the other benefits included with their plans. The move is aimed at making international travel more convenient for customers who do not want the added hassle and cost of arranging roaming services before every trip.

The complimentary roaming pack is valid for five days and includes 5GB of data, 60 minutes of outgoing and incoming calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS. Customers can choose when they want to activate the five-day benefit, giving them more control over their connectivity while travelling.

For customers using Airtel Postpaid family plans, the benefit goes a step further. Each family member included in the plan is eligible for one free international roaming trip per year.

Airtel says the new roaming benefit adds to the broader experience offered through its postpaid plans. Customers can also get access to Fast Lane technology, unlimited data on eligible plans, network-level protection against spam and fraudulent links, entertainment subscriptions and experiences through the Airtel Postpaid Advantage Club.

The Advantage Club provides customers with access to experiences such as comedy shows, movie premieres and concerts, adding lifestyle benefits alongside telecommunications services.

Commenting on the announcement, Amit Tripathi, Director – Market Operations at Bharti Airtel, said the company wants its postpaid customers to receive a stronger overall experience, combining network performance, security, entertainment and value-added services.

According to Airtel, the latest addition is part of its effort to give customers more reasons to choose postpaid services, particularly as consumers increasingly expect their mobile plans to offer more than basic calls and data.

What Airtel customers need to know

The new plans will be available from October 8, 2026. Existing Airtel customers using either older postpaid plans or prepaid services can upgrade through the Airtel App or by visiting an Airtel Store.

Customers who are currently using another telecom provider can also move to Airtel Postpaid by submitting a switching request through the Airtel App or visiting an Airtel Store.

The free international roaming benefit is particularly relevant for frequent travellers. Instead of purchasing a separate roaming pack for every overseas trip, eligible customers can use their annual complimentary five-day roaming benefit when they need it.

Like the other new postpaid plans, every SIM included in the plan receives one free international roaming trip per year.

A more travel-friendly postpaid experience

International roaming can become an unexpected expense for travellers, particularly when they need mobile data, calls and messaging immediately after landing in another country. Airtel’s new approach puts a limited but useful roaming allowance directly into its postpaid plans.

For someone who travels internationally once a year, the five-day complimentary pack could make the mobile experience simpler. Travellers can activate it when they actually need it instead of paying for an international roaming package months or days in advance.

The bigger question for customers will be whether the combination of roaming, unlimited connectivity, security features and entertainment subscriptions delivers enough value compared with competing postpaid options.

For Airtel, however, the message is clear: postpaid is no longer being positioned simply as a monthly mobile connection. The company is packaging connectivity with travel, entertainment, digital services and security benefits to make its plans more attractive to modern customers.

With the new plans becoming available from October 8, 2026, existing Airtel customers and customers considering a switch will have another reason to compare what their current mobile plan actually offers.
