Srinagar, July 9 — In a major development aimed at uplifting rural infrastructure, the Government of India has approved ₹4,224 crore for the construction of 316 roads across 19 districts of Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Phase 4 (PMGSY-4). Spanning a total length of 1,781 kilometers, this transformative initiative promises to bring long-overdue relief and opportunity to many isolated communities.
This is more than just a funding announcement—it’s a message of inclusion for the people living in far-flung areas who’ve long yearned for better connectivity to schools, hospitals, and marketplaces. Roads may seem simple, but for many villages, they represent a lifeline to dignity, healthcare, and economic opportunity.
The highest number of roads has been allocated to Rajouri district, which will see 41 new roads built at a cost of ₹588.12 crore. From Manjakot to Kalakot and Dhangri to Budhal, the region is set for a connectivity overhaul.
Close behind is Poonch, with 40 roads and an investment of ₹484.92 crore. Roads will touch lives in places like Bufliaz, Loran, and Mendhar—areas where travel often comes with hardship, especially during winters.
Doda district will benefit from 31 new roads with ₹661 crore in funding, while Ramban will get 26 roads worth ₹416.10 crore. Reasi, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Kathua, and Kupwara follow with notable projects that will improve mobility and access for thousands.
Other districts receiving approvals include Budgam, Baramulla, Kulgam, Pulwama, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Jammu, and Samba, each with their unique needs being acknowledged and addressed.
This effort didn’t happen overnight. The Union Rural Development Ministry had previously requested a comprehensive list of unconnected villages. After extensive field assessments by teams from Delhi and a thorough vetting process, the green light was finally given. The Jammu & Kashmir Public Works Department has already begun initiating tenders to get the work off the ground.
Behind every sanctioned road is a story—of a student who walks miles to school, a patient rushed on a cot to the nearest hospital, a farmer unable to access a market. With this allocation, the government isn’t just laying down asphalt—it’s paving the way for dreams, growth, and inclusion.
