An Indian national has been killed and two others injured in an attack at Dammam airport in Saudi Arabia, according to the Indian Embassy in Riyadh. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of Indian citizens living and working in the kingdom, as attacks on critical infrastructure continue to heighten regional tensions.
The embassy confirmed that Saudi authorities informed it of the casualties following the attack on Wednesday night. In a statement shared on social media, the mission said that one Indian national was among two people who lost their lives, while two Indian nationals sustained injuries.
The embassy is working to gather further information and remains in contact with the affected families. It also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The incident comes amid a series of drone and missile attacks targeting airports, energy facilities and other important infrastructure across Saudi Arabia. Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been involved in a prolonged conflict in the region, although Saudi authorities have not publicly identified those responsible for the attack on Dammam airport.
Indian National Also Injured in Shaybah Oilfield Attack
The latest incident follows another attack on Wednesday targeting the Shaybah oilfield, a major energy facility operated by Saudi Aramco in southeastern Saudi Arabia.
According to the Indian Embassy, an Indian national was injured in the incident. The mission said it was coordinating with Saudi authorities to obtain further details and would provide the necessary assistance to the injured citizen.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy reported that air defence systems intercepted a drone attempting to target the oilfield. However, falling shrapnel reportedly killed two residents, a Filipino national and a Nepali national, while two others, including the injured Indian citizen and a Pakistani national, sustained injuries.
The incident also caused a fire involving a contractor’s vehicle outside the facility’s perimeter. Saudi authorities stated that oilfield operations were not affected.
Located in the Rub’ al-Khali desert near the United Arab Emirates border, Shaybah is an important part of Saudi Arabia’s oil production infrastructure. Any threat to such facilities raises concerns about regional security and the protection of critical energy assets.
Growing Concerns Over the Safety of Indian Citizens
The latest casualties come after another deadly incident earlier this month at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, where an Indian national was killed and several others were injured.
India has strongly condemned attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, particularly those affecting civilian facilities and critical infrastructure. New Delhi has called for an immediate end to hostilities and stressed the importance of protecting civilians.
The Indian Embassy has also issued safety advisories urging Indian nationals across Saudi Arabia to remain alert, follow instructions from local authorities and seek shelter indoors during aerial attacks.
Indian citizens have additionally been cautioned against recording or sharing photographs and videos of drone or missile interceptions and their impact sites. Such activities may carry legal consequences under Saudi law.
Why This Matters to the Indian Community
Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 2.74 million Indian nationals working across a wide range of industries. They contribute significantly to the kingdom’s workforce while maintaining important economic, social and family connections with India.
For many families, news of attacks affecting Indian workers overseas brings uncertainty and anxiety. Behind every reported casualty is a family waiting for information, hoping for reassurance and worrying about the safety of a loved one far from home.
As regional tensions continue, the safety of migrant workers and other civilians remains a pressing concern. Timely communication from authorities, access to emergency assistance and clear safety guidance are essential to helping people protect themselves during periods of instability.
Indian nationals living in Saudi Arabia are advised to monitor official embassy announcements, follow local emergency instructions and avoid approaching areas affected by attacks.
