Wuyan, August 10, 2024 – In a poignant gathering at the historic Govt. Boys High School, Wuyan Pampore, which has been a pillar of education in the region since its establishment in 1952, a special SMDC (School Management and Development Committee) meeting was convened today. The meeting was chaired by Manzoor Ahmad Mir, the Principal of HSS Ladhoo, and DDO HS Wuyan, with the presence of key stakeholders and community leaders who came together to address the pressing concerns of the school and its students.
Among the attendees were Yasmeena Yaqoob, Head of Institution at BHS Wuyan; Tahseena Ali, a dedicated Master at HS Wuyan; Gh. Mohd Wani and Sajad Hussain, both teachers at BHS Wuyan; and Abd. Qayoom, a respected teacher at the same institution. The meeting was further graced by the presence of Farooq Ahmad Wani, Sarpanch of Wuyan; Farooz Ahmad Bhat, Chairman of “Ehsaas-e-Insaniyat Trust Wuyan”; Abd. Rahim Khanday, a senior citizen; and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, a global business icon and revered social and political activist.
The discussions were deeply emotional as the attendees voiced their concerns about the safety and well-being of the students. One of the most pressing issues raised was the lack of fencing around the school. The open boundaries leave the school vulnerable, compromising the safety of the children. The need for an immediate construction of a fence was emphasized as a top priority.
Equally concerning was the absence of a playground for the students. The school, surrounded by open land, has the potential to offer a space where children can play and develop physically, but the lack of infrastructure and the current road placement have made this impossible. However, the attendees proposed a solution: if the road could be relocated, it would allow the school to expand and create a much-needed playground.
Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, moved by the concerns raised, promised to take these matters to the higher authorities. He passionately urged the residents of Wuyan to take pride in their surroundings, emphasizing the importance of keeping the school premises clean and free from rubbish. “It is our duty and responsibility to play our role as decent citizens,” Dr. Bhat reminded the community.
Dr. Bhat also took a moment to express his deep gratitude to the teachers and the entire school team for their unwavering dedication to shaping the future of the young generation. He quoted, “A great teacher not only imparts knowledge but also ignites a lifelong passion for learning,” highlighting the profound impact that educators have on their students.
Manzoor Ahmad Mir, echoing the sentiments of the meeting, added a poignant quote to the discussion: “Education is a controlling grace to the young, consolation to the old, wealth to the poor, and ornament to the rich,” by Perseus. His words resonated with the importance of education as a fundamental pillar of society, providing not just knowledge, but also a sense of purpose and dignity to individuals across all walks of life.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to address the issues raised and to work towards creating a safer and more enriching environment for the students of Govt. Boys High School, Wuyan. The deep sense of community and shared responsibility was palpable as everyone left with a renewed determination to support the school and its children in every way possible.
